First experiment with watercolor pencil.

Lessons learned:

  • Do not add all the colors dry on top of one another. They turn to "muddy" color when water brush is applied.
  • Sequence. Lay down color. Apply watercolor brush. Let each color dry BEFORE adding the next color layer.
  • Usually, don't "blend" colors on the paper.
  • Think "this is a million colors" each time another layer is added after previous colors dry.
  • Use different thicknesses of waterproof marker lines. Close parts and emphasis = thicker line. Face to background = thiner sketch lines.
  • For birds: Most important is the EYE, then beak, and feet important too. (This bird seems to be missing some of it's toes. Poor birdy).
LOTS of good lessons.
